Dear 7th Grade Families,

Our 7th graders spent time in Homeroom going over elective options as future 8th graders, here is the information that was shared:

Using the 8th Grade Elective 2026-2027 Google Form, student's will select their top five elective choices for next year. Please make sure that all five selections are different electives. While we do our best to place students into their preferred classes, please note that elective placement is based on availability, and we cannot guarantee that you will receive your top choices. However, we work hard to ensure that every student is placed in at least one of their requested electives.

As an 8th grader, students have access to additional elective opportunities such as: Teacher’s Assistant (TA), Advanced Art, ASB, AVID, World Language and more!

Please keep in mind that some electives require: teacher recommendation or approval, strong academic performance, and/or positive Work Habits and Citizenship marks

Students who would like to take two electives at South Lake (one must be a yearlong elective) will need to enroll in Bonus Period PE. To indicate interest in this option, please select Bonus Period PE on the Google Form.

Additionally, 8th grade students have the opportunity to take a World Language course through Irvine Virtual Academy (IVA). If you are interested in taking a World Language class, please note the following:

  1. Complete the separate World Language Google Form.

  2. Students enrolled in a World Language course through IVA will not be permitted to also enroll in Bonus Period PE in order to take two electives at South Lake in addition to the World Language course. You are able to take one additional elective during the school day.

We encourage students to carefully consider your choices and select electives that match interests, strengths, and goals for next year.  Before making any selections please review the Course Catalog - South Lake Course Catalog 26-27.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Granger support.

We are excited to see all the great opportunities students pursue next year as 8th graders!

Thank you!
