Student Enrichment Activities

SHARK TIME

Shark Time is a unique program at South Lake. It occurs twice a week for 42 minutes throughout the whole trimester. All students are assigned to a Shark Time based on their academic needs, behavior and study skills needs, or personal interests. Students stay in their assigned Shark Time for the duration of the trimester. It's a great time for students to receive additional support or explore other areas of interest during the school week.

ACADEMIC COMPETITIONS

South Lake has a variety of academic competitions that our students may take part in, such as National History Day, Science Fair, Math Challengers, VEX Robotics, and more. Our teachers provide information about these competitions to students throughout the school year. You can view highlights from past competitions on our South Lake Instagram channel.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM

The goal of the City of Irvine’s Middle School Program (MSP) is to engage youth in positive social-recreational activities during non-school hours. Students are encouraged to participate in the development and implementation of programs and activities that focus on community service, personal skill development, and social recreation. Services are provided in cooperation with the Irvine Unified School District. See the MSP website for an updated calendar and all the details. Flyers are also available in the South Lake front office. In the Youth Action Team (YAT), students initiate, plan, and implement after-school activities for YAT members and community service projects focusing on the environment, youth, senior, and disabled communities.
