End of Year 8th Grade Celebrations

Dear Eighth Grade Students and Families, 

The end of the year is almost here and we have many exciting opportunities for our eighth grade students to celebrate their accomplishments.  It is important for students to demonstrate South Lake Cares at all times to be able to participate in these events. We are looking forward to celebrating our Sharks at the following activities:

 

Thursday, May 14th	8th Grade Panoramic Picture   Class Picture will be during Shark Time Return South Coast Photography envelope with payment on May 14th (envelopes will be given to your student at the beginning of the week of May 11th.)
Monday, May 25th (No School)	Memorial Day Holiday
Tuesday, May 26th	8th Grade Awards Ceremony   Students being recognized will receive an invitation Ceremony will be at 5:00 P.M. at Woodbridge High School Performing Arts Center (Large Theater) 2 Meadowbrook, Irvine
Saturday, May 30th	8th Grade dance starts at 7:00 P.M. and ends at 9:30 P.M.   The dance will be held at the Irvine Boys and Girls Club Tickets are $25 (see below for details) with permission slip Purchase Tickets Here (for ticket purchase) PTSA Waiver: PDF Copy (must print,  sign & return) OR Google Form SLMS Dance Contract (must turn in to HR Teacher)
Tuesday, June 2nd	Staff/Student Softball Game Students receive Yearbooks
Wednesday, June 3rd	8th Grade Field Trip to Boomers.   Students who choose not to participate in the Boomers trip should attend school at the regular time:  9:00 A.M. to 3:02 P.M. on Wednesday June 3, 2026. Permission slip MUST be completed, signed and returned to the front office in order to attend. We will send the permission slip home with your student in early May. Ticket purchases are on MySchoolBucks at https://www.myschoolbucks.com . We cannot accept cash or checks.  One ticket per 8th grade student. Contact the front office for assistance if needed at 949-936-6700.
Thursday, June 4th	School Carnival   Minimum Day - 12:30 P.M. Dismissal
Friday, June 5th	8th Grade Promotion Ceremony at 9:30 A.M.   Students report to their Homeroom teacher at 9:00 A.M. Promotion begins at 9:30 A.M.
Tuesday, June 9th	Final Grades posted on Aeries

PROMOTION DANCE 
We are so excited for our 8th Grade Promotion Dance on Saturday, May 30, 2026. South Lake PTSA is sponsoring our South Lake Stellar Nights Promotion Dance at the Boys and Girls Club in Irvine for our 8th grade students ONLY. There will be something for everyone; including snacks, professional DJ, dancing, a photo booth, cotton candy, popcorn, and more! 
LOCATION: Boys and Girls Club, 295 E Yale Loop, Irvine, CA 92604
DATE & TIME: Saturday, May 30 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M..
PRICE: $25.00 each with,PTSA Waiver Digital OR PTSA Waiver PDF; SLMS Dance Contract; Purchase Tickets Here; and     
You may drop off your signed permission slip and money (cash or check made out to SL PTSA) at the Front Office.  You may also purchase the tickets from the QR Code by May 22nd. Tickets may be purchased at the door with exact cash payments only.  Scholarships can be discussed with Ms. Holcomb, school counselor.  
 **Cell phone use will not be permitted inside the dance. **  

BOOMERS 8TH GRADE TRIP
On Wednesday, June 3, from 10:00am to 2:30pm, eighth graders will have the opportunity to enjoy BOOMERS with their classmates and homeroom teachers. The cost of the trip is $30.00 and payment will be through MySchoolBucks only.   You may go to https://www.myschoolbucks.com to secure a ticket for your student.  We are not accepting cash or checks.   Students who do not participate in this field trip are expected to attend school.   Only students with a parent-signed field trip permission slip will be able to participate.  Permission slips will be distributed to students in the first week of May.  Students should return their permission slip to the front office by Friday, May 13th. 
 

• The school will not be offering transportation.  Students must be dropped off and picked up by a parent/guardian, or they may travel independently via bicycle or city bus.
• Students must check in with their Homeroom teacher upon arrival and must check out at 2:30.      
• Unlimited attractions, unlimited arcade and lunch is included in the price of the ticket.

PROMOTION CEREMONY
On Friday, June 5, at 9:30 A.M., eighth grade South Lake students will be honored in a promotion ceremony.  The ceremony will take place outside on our blacktop. Students should arrive at their Homeroom location by 9:00 A.M.  Student dress for the ceremony should follow our dress code and dress nicer than everyday school attire.  Parents are welcome and invited to attend and there is no limit for guest count.  Family and friends attending will be sitting out on the grass behind the blacktop and will need to bring their own chair/seating.  The ceremony will be livestreamed and the link will be sent out to families. Students will be dismissed at the end of the promotion to enjoy the remainder of the afternoon with family. Please do not bring any noise makers to the ceremony…Thank you! 

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please reach out if you have any questions. Students with negative attendance, multiple 1 or 2 marks for Citizenship and/or Work Habits, or not meeting South Lake Cares expectations, are at risk of not being able to attend some/all of the events and will be notified should they fall within these areas of concern. It is important to finish the year strong!
