Good Afternoon South Lake Families,
Every Friday, you will receive the South Lake Newsletter detailing what is happening at school, as well as important announcements, resources, schedules, and upcoming events. It is important to read the weekly Newsletter to stay informed and active about our community and South Lake.
There are several items that you will need to complete before the start of school. There is no in-person Registration at South Lake prior to the start of school. Families are required to complete the online steps as confirmation of attendance and to be ready for the start of the school year. The steps for Online Registration are listed below.
Shark Week for 7th grade is our unique way of welcoming students to South Lake. Please note that this is not a registration event. Students are encouraged, but not required, to attend and there are no make-up sessions. Shark Week for 7th grade students is on August 13th from 10am - 12pm for our incoming students to have fun learning about South Lake, becoming familiar with staff and our school, and meeting new friends so we hope your student attends! Please have your student dress comfortably and bring a water bottle. Direct specific questions about Shark Week to our Shark Week Coordinator, Coach Doan at vincedoan@iusd.org.
Afterward, all families, both 7th and 8th grade, are invited to attend our PTSA sponsored Shark Family Social on August 13th.
Shark Week for 8th grade will happen on Friday, August 23rd. We have planned an exciting field trip to Orange County Ropes Course, located off the 91 freeway at Featherly Regional Park, for a day of team building and healthy risk taking. We are very fortunate to be collaborating with Dr. Bill Beacham, Ph. D, Executive Director of Drug-Free Communities since 1988. Dr. Beacham began his career in IUSD as a teacher, psychologist and coach before co-authoring What Did You Learn in School Today as well as working for the National Institute for Mental Health. He is the founder of the Peer Assistance Leadership (PAL) Camp and PAL Leadership/Team Work Day training program for youth. This program focuses on resilience skills, asset building, violence prevention, conflict resolution, and substance abuse prevention. Our 8th grade students will be participating in these aspects of the PAL program with our 8th grade teachers…we are very fortunate to have this opportunity!
To help offset the cost of the Shark Week field trip, we would like to know if you are able to provide transportation for your own student or possibly coordinate your own carpool. Students will have the option to ride the bus.
Please complete the following forms by August 21st:
Transportation Options Form - all families complete this form
Orange County Ropes Course Release Form - return to school on the first day of school.
Address for Ropes Course:

More information about 8th Grade Shark Week Field Trip will be sent out closer to the start of school.
We are looking forward to seeing our Sharks soon!
