South Lake Newsletter - December 1, 2023

Good Afternoon South Lake Community, 

 It is with great pleasure and admiration that we honor Mrs. Amanda Welch, South Lake’s 2023 Teacher of Excellence! Mrs. Welch wears many hats at South Lake…she teaches Enhanced Math 1, Math Lab, and our AVID Elective. This is our first year of offering AVID and we are thrilled that she is leading the way! In the classroom, Mrs. Welch brings tremendous energy and passion in creating engaging math lessons and instruction to meet all student’s needs. Mrs. Welch can also be seen out at lunch participating in lunchtime sports or setting up a social event for our staff or staying in her classroom to reteach a lesson. Mrs. Welch cares deeply about her students, our staff and school, modeling South Lake Cares in everything she does. We celebrated this morning with staff and family and look forward to honoring her in the Spring at IUSD’s Teacher of Excellence Award Ceremony.

Grades will be finalized and Monday, December 4th and you will be able to view your student’s Report Card on Aeries Parent Portal on Tuesday, December 5th. 

Tickets for our Starry Night Dance will go on sale starting next week at lunch. Students must bring their signed permission slip with them to be able to purchase a ticket. Permission slips will be available for pick up in Homeroom or at lunch. The dance is on Friday, December 15th from 5-7:00pm at South Lake. Tickets are $5 or $7 at the door. Please make sure to read the permission slip for details about behavior expectations, dress and what our ASB students have planned for the dance. 

We hope to see you all at Harvest Cup this weekend. Our first game is Friday at 4pm where the Girls team will take on Beacon Park (field 6) and Rancho on Saturday at 11am. We have two boys team entered into the tournament. Team Spannagel plays on Saturday at 8am & 10am (field 4) and Team Rodriguez plays Friday at 4pm and Saturday at 11am (field 4). All games are held at the Great Park…go Sharks!

Lastly, should you have any bikes, scooters or helmets that you are no longer using, we would love to take them off your hands! Please contact our Campus Supervisor, Mr. Vasquez if you need to coordinate drop off at orlandovasquez@iusd.org or drop them off at the front office…we would be so grateful! He is also the best contact if you need to participate in our e-Vehicle Safety training to be able to register an e-bike.

• Illness - Please keep student home when they have any of the following signs and symptoms of illness: Fever (temp > 100.4), excessive runny nose, excessive cough, two or more episodes of vomiting in the last 24 hours, or an unexplained rash.
• Mental health – a new California law states that absences for the benefit of the pupil’s mental or behavioral health shall be excused (Ed Code 48205). After 5 absences, a doctor’s note will be required.
