We are officially half way through the school year! Progress Reports are now available on the Parent Portal at www.MyIUSD.org. Should you have any questions or concerns about your student’s performance, please do not hesitate to contact their teachers directly. Your student’s Homeroom teacher is another resource as well as our school Counselors, Ms. Watkins and Ms. Holcomb. Please make sure to read about all the upcoming events and important information below as they include specific times and some deadlines.

Substance Abuse and Vaping Dangers
IUSD, in partnership with Hoag Hospital, will host a Substance Use and Vaping Dangers parent night on Tuesday, February 4th in the Irvine High School Theater from 6:30-8p.m.
- How to identify substance abuse disorders and common warning signs
- Talking with teens – openly and honestly – about drug and alcohol use
- Health impacts and dangers of vaping
- Available resources and supports for families
After the presentation, a panel of experts from IUSD, Hoag and the Irvine Police Department will be on hand for a question and answer session. This event is free and open to the public (ages 16+ recommended). No RSVP need.
Tuesday Talk – Navigating Divorce for Parents and Students
Ms. Holcomb and Ms. Watkins, South Lake Counselors, will be leading a conversation with parents and students about parenting post-divorce and discussing effective coping strategies. The Annual Survey window is now open, please take 10-15 minutes to complete this survey about your experience here at South Lake. The information from this survey is used to identify and prioritize needs for South Lake as well as IUSD. The window to apply for school choice is now open. Please go to Intradistrict-School Choice for procedures for Intradistrict transfer. Please note that Woodbridge High School is only open to requests for siblings concurrently enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year. The application window closes on January 31st.

The presale price for purchasing a Yearbook deadline is January 31st. The cost of the Yearbook will increase from $42 to $48 starting February 3rd.
English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
ELAC is meeting February 26th at 2:45pm in room 302. We will be discussing the upcoming High School Placement exams, discuss updates from DELAC, and the value of using a growth mindset as an English Learner. All parents, guardians, community members and students enrolled in English Learner Programs are invited to attend.
After School Tutoring
Reminder that the Joy Club from WHS is continuing their free tutoring at South Lake every Tuesday after school. Tutoring will take place in the Media Center from 2:45pm – 3:30pm every Tuesday. Ms. Watkins, Counselor, will be there to assist as well.
