Congratulations to 8th grader Wendy C. for winning the title of "Champion" at the state level of National History Day competition in the category of website. This is a major achievement!
The theme of this year's NHD competition was "Breaking Barriers." Wendy's topic is Wilma Rudolph, the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field at a single Olympics.
Wendy's thesis statement reads, "She is famous for persevering through challenging obstacles, especially a disability that hindered her growth as an athlete, and eventually overcoming them. At the peak of her career, she used her fame to raise awareness about social injustices in order to break barriers based on race, economics and gender inequality and because of that, her legacy lives on."
