SLMS 25 - 26 Chromebook Policy

Textbooks, Chromebooks, School Materials, & Headphones

The school provides Chromebooks, textbooks, and other school-issued materials to students. These items are the student’s responsibility. Students are expected to keep these items in good working condition, bring Chromebooks to school fully charged each day, and always know the whereabouts of any items checked out to them. Students will be issued a charger with their Chromebook. Chargers are expected to be returned with Chromebooks at the end of the student’s 8th grade year. Chromebooks returned without a charger will result in a fine. Replacement chargers will not be accepted as a payment method. Loaner Chromebooks will not be provided to students via the library – it is the student’s responsibility to bring their Chromebook to school for use each day.

Students are responsible for reporting lost Chromebooks to the library immediately. The school is not responsible for tracking lost or misplaced items. Chromebooks are the property of the district – students should not place stickers or draw on school issued Chromebooks. Items should not be shared with others, as students are responsible for everything that is checked out in their name including any damages, whether done by the student or not. If an item has pre-existing damage, it must be reported to the library within three days of checkout. If a Chromebook or other resource is lost or damaged, a fine will be assessed—with no exceptions or excuses. Students are responsible for paying the fine that is assessed – no replacement items will be accepted. Chromebook insurance is available through IUSD to help cover accidental damage or repairs, and we strongly encourage families to consider this option. Insurance does not cover any damage that is considered intentionally done. Intentional damage will result in fines and the student will be held fully responsible.

Students are not permitted to use their own devices/computer at school. All students are issued an IUSD Chromebook. We use Blocksi for monitoring student access. Parent/Guardians are able to create a Blocksi account to view their student’s activity. Students are not permitted to use Chromebooks during break or lunch. Chromebooks are to be used only in the classroom for academic purposes.

HEADPHONES AND EAR BUDS
To minimize distractions and ensure student safety, wireless headphones and earbuds, including AirPods, are not permitted at school. Any headphones used on campus during the school day must be wired and can only be used with a Chromebook.
