Hello 8th Grade Families!

PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW!

We are very excited about our Shark Week Field Trip to OC Ropes Course, located off the 91 freeway at Featherly Regional Park, on Friday, August 23rd. We have planned a full day of fun activities for our 8th graders that will further develop student’s resilience, team working and building skills, empathy, mindfulness and health risk taking.

What to Expect
Students must dress in athletic clothing and shoes – they will be engaging in several physical challenges and it will be pretty warm. We suggest students wear hats and apply sunscreen and everyone should bring a reusable water bottle in a small bag if needed. Students do not need to bring their Chromebook to school! Students are encouraged to bring snacks and can bring their own lunch if preferred, we will be bringing bagged lunches for everyone. We will not permit any student to use their cell phone – they should be silenced and away. I do not recommend your child keeping them on their body as we will be doing lots of activities where it can fall out or be damaged. We will be taking pictures of the day to document all the fun!

Transportation
For students being dropped off or carpooling, you DO NOT need to come to school first. Please go directly to the park. You can arrive as early as 8:25am. The address is:
Challenge Course
24001 E. Santa Ana Canyon Rd
Anaheim Hills, CA 92808
Please drive all the way into the park. Coach Doan, Ms. Holcomb and Nurse Schjei will be there to check you in. The same location will be where to pick up, starting at 2:45pm.

For students riding the bus, students MUST arrive by 8:10am. Students will go straight to their Homeroom number on the blacktop when the bell rings. Homeroom teachers will be checking students in and then we will start loading the busses. We anticipate arriving back to school in the afternoon at about 3:20-3:30pm. Students can leave their bikes parked at school for the day.

Required Paperwork
1. If you haven’t already done so, please indicate how your student will be getting to/from the park by filling out the Transportation Options Form. We will use the most recently submitted form as your transportation.

2. If you haven’t already, please fill out and sign the Orange County Ropes Course Release Form – your student has a paper copy that we gave them today if needed. All students complete this form. You can also email a copy to belindaaverill@iusd.org

3. ADDITIONAL FORM: Please fill out the IUSD Field Trip Permission form and send in with your student or email to belindaaverill@iusd.org

Students met with Dr. Beacham today to get oriented to the day and what to think about before Friday. Some students might not think they are up for this challenge but I guarantee they are and we will be there to support! Students will participate in 7 rotations over the course of the day. One of the rotations is the ropes course and know that not all students will be required to do the ropes course – there two other options to choose from that will get students to the same outcome.

We are very excited to be able to take our students to this once in a lifetime experience…Go Sharks!

In kindness,
Belinda Averill
