CURRENT 6th GRADERS

Dear Sixth Grade Parent/Guardians:

Welcome to South Lake Middle School!  We are excited that you and your students will soon become South Lake Sharks. To prepare for registration, please review the following information below:

South Lake Registration:

All students enroll in at least one elective class.  At South Lake, we offer trimester elective classes, year-long elective classes and support classes.  There is an option for students to enroll in more than one elective by enrolling in Bonus Period PE (explanation in video).  Students also have two days of Shark Time during the week to explore an area of interest, as well as academic and/or Social-Emotional Learning support; registration for Shark Time will take place at the beginning of next school year.

Please follow ALL of the steps below to indicate your preferences for 7th grade Electives.  You can find the full directions and links on our website at southlake.iusd.org/department/registration.

STEP 1: Review the 26-27 SLMS Course Catalog.

STEP 2: Watch the video on how to fill out the Electives Form.

STEP 3: After watching the video, fill out the Electives Form: SLMS - 7th Grade Electives 2026-2027

*Note about music: Symphonic Orchestra and Symphonic Band are advanced music courses.  If your student has been in a music course throughout 6th grade, you may apply for the symphonic music course.  Please contact  Mr. Grenier at JasonGrenier@iusd.org to audition.

Please complete the Electives Form by Friday, May 2nd, 2025.

  • Scroll down to “STEP 1” and Review the 26-25 Course Catalog and review
  • “STEP 2” Watch the Video on how to fill out the Electives Form
  • “STEP 3” Fill out the Electives Form titled: SLMS - 7th Grade Electives

​​​​Families of students with IEP’s:

South Lake IEP team has met with your elementary school IEP teams to assist in the transition of special education supports and class scheduling for each student. South Lake Case Carriers personally handle the individual scheduling of each student with an IEP, to ensure the correct courses and services are in place, based on your current IEP team’s recommendations. South Lake Case Carriers will be reaching out to families to introduce themselves at the beginning of the school year. You may contact your current IEP team for any additional questions at this time.
