KNOTT’S BERRY FARM

On Thursday, June 1 at 9:00 A.M., eighth graders will depart South Lake, by school bus, for Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park.  The cost of the trip is $65, cash or MySchoolBucks Link, which includes all day admission and transportation.  We anticipate students returning to campus between around 5:30 P.M., depending on traffic.  Students who do not participate in this field trip are expected to attend school.  Only students with a parent-signed field trip permission slip will be able to participate.  Permission slips will be distributed to students in Homeroom on Thursday, May 4th.  Students should return their permission slip and cash (if not paid through MySchoolBucks) to the front office by Friday, May 26th.  If your student has a season pass, then the trip will be $30 for transportation costs.  It will be the student responsibility to carry their season pass with them to enter the park.

  • Knott’s is Cashless.  Students can pay for food, treats and gifts with Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express credit cards and most debit cards are accepted for payment.  Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted too.  You can use Cash-to-Card Kiosks while at Knott’s to get a prepaid debit card at no charge.
  • While at Knott’s Berry Farm, students are expected to abide by all school rules and park rules. This includes our school dress code.  Parents will be contacted should their student be in violation of these rules.

PROMOTION CEREMONY

On Friday, June 2, at 9:30 A.M., eighth grade South Lake students will be honored in a promotion ceremony.  The ceremony will take place outside on our blacktop.  Students should arrive at their Homeroom class by 9:00 A.M.  Student dress for the ceremony should follow our dress code and dress nicer than everyday school attire.  Parents are welcome and invited to attend, there is no limit for guest count.  Family and friends attending will be sitting out on the grass behind the blacktop and will need to bring their own chair/seating.  The ceremony will be livestreamed and the link will be sent out to families. Students will be dismissed at the end of the promotion to enjoy the remainder of the afternoon with family. Please do not bring any noise makers to the ceremony…thank you!

Please reach out if you have any questions. Students with multiple N/U marks for Citizenship and/or Work Habits are at risk of not being able to attend some/all of the events and will be notified about their attendance. It is important to finish the year strong!

We look forward to celebrating our Class of 2023…go Sharks!

Interested in Latin? John Conant, Latin Teacher at Woodbridge High School, would love your student to consider Latin as an option for your student. Woodbridge Latin has an up to four-year sequence that includes mythology, geography, and history, as well as the Latin language (i.e., vocabulary, grammar, and rhetorical style).  The course is designed so after four years a student might confidently take the Latin Advanced Placement Exam. Although the Woodbridge language program also features Spanish and Chinese, Latin offers more monsters, murder, and magic than the other languages.   An important adjunct to the Latin program is the Junior Classical League, a state-wide and national network of high school Latin clubs, whose Woodbridge chapter is the largest student club on campus (53 members this year). In addition to Latin and academics, JCL club activities also include art, athletics, volunteer work, and social events. Woodbridge Latin regularly takes trips to Italy and last summer they traveled to Rome and Pompeii to visit places explored in the classroom.
